Cholula Condesa

Colonia Hipódromo · Condesa

Hipódromo

Cholula Condesa is in Colonia Hipódromo, in La Condesa, Cuauhtémoc borough. The neighbourhood takes its name from a racetrack: the Jockey Club opened its track here in 1910, and in 1926 José Luis Cuevas laid out the neighbourhood on top of it.

The track

The oval is Avenida Ámsterdam.

When the racing stopped, the track’s shape stayed in the street plan: Avenida Ámsterdam runs all the way around the old oval. Cuevas planned the neighbourhood as a garden city.

That is why La Vuelta starts here: one lap of the oval, walking or running, before the sauna.

The street

Calle Cholula.

Our street shares its name with Cholula, Puebla, the city of the Tlachihualtepetl pyramid, the “hand-made mountain”.
